On a New Day

On A New Day

The five-hour durational performance “On A New Day” opens at the countdown to 2023, running also on the first day (and weekend) of the new year. Ritual persists: From midday to sunset, performers sustain a sense of hope through storytelling under the gleam and shadow of real-time sunlight.

The “On A New Day series”, launched since 2016 by Vee Leong and Performosa Theatre (Taiwan), has become a cross-cultural ritual held every two years around new year's days. This is the third edition which is devised collectively by a whole new cast from Hong Kong - together with the live audiences, conceiving stories of endless deferrals. Summarising six years of accumulated exploratory results, the project practises an aesthetic exploration that combines structured improvisation, discourse, and durational performance strategies, presenting the reality of time and life in a non-dramatic way.
