Tit Hong Lane
History and memory disperse, identities hide in the shadows, but one day, we will all return to the starting point of our departure in strange, unexpected forms.
In Central, there is a small alley called Tit Hong Lane. It has witnessed the opening of Hong Kong port, a century of demolition, and urban redevelopment, yet it remains quietly persistent. Hidden beneath the feet of towering giants, this narrow path has only one entrance but seemingly countless exits. It connects the rise and fall of Hong Kong’s first Chinese commercial district, imperial maritime legends, major land reclamation histories, family narratives, childhood dreams, and maturation. A small space unfolds the past, present, and future of a metropolis. Through memories, archives, virtual realities, or perhaps a mysterious phone call from Hong Kong to Istanbul, it unfolds various stories in different styles, retracing our city and listening to its echoes.
In “Tit Hong Lane”, Chan Ping-chiu picks up the fragments of real materials, starting from his ancestral home, gathering a vast array of documentary materials. Integrating narrative theatre and multimedia installations, he weaves a magical realm of reality and illusion, leading the audience to return to the city before demolition, in search of the deepest emotional scenes of the neighborhood.
